Irrigation & Sprinkler Systems

SprinklerWatering Your Landscaping

Customers who water their lawns frequently may choose to pay for a second, irrigation-only water meter. The drinking water flowing through an irrigation meter is separated from the water that enters the home. Since water diverted for irrigation does not pass through the home’s plumbing system, customers pay only water and not wastewater charges.

Other Options

Some customers west of N.C. 55 have access to the Town’s reclaimed water system. This system uses treated wastewater for irrigation and certain other non-drinking purposes.

Customers may also water landscaping with hoses or sprinklers attached to their household plumbing system. During droughts, restrictions on using drinking water for irrigation may be enacted.
