A new elementary school is slated for southwest Holly Springs!
The Holly Springs Town Council approved a development plan for Rex Road Elementary, which is to be located on the north side of Rex Road, near the Bridgeberry neighborhood. The school could be completed in mid-2024, according to the Wake County Public School System.
“We’ve done all of our homework,” said Betty Parker, Wake County Public School System Real Estate senior director. “It’s where you’re growing; it’s where we’re growing. It’s where we need it.”
With a student capacity of 716, the 134,698-square-foot school, located on more than 40 acres, preserves about 43% of the land as open space. A playfield, outdoor spaces, and separate carpool and bus areas are included. The site design took advantage of environmental features, with constructed areas set away from wetlands and sensitive areas to preserve water quality.
Right- and left-turn lanes will be constructed, and right-of-way dedication for future potential road widening will be provided. A 10-foot-wide sidewalk path along the road frontage from the Bridgeberry neighborhood to the school also could be built, pending a development agreement and right-of-way acquisition.
