The updated plan for the future of Downtown Holly Springs has been approved by the Holly Springs Town Council. Highlights in the plan include an expanded farmers market, a festival street, greenway connections, and an updated Mims Park. The plan also calls for a curated Downtown with a feel that lets residents know they’re in Holly Springs by incorporating public art, a Town square, and other elements.
The updated plan incorporated feedback from hundreds of residents during in-person meetings and more than 2,000 survey responses. An advisory committee for the plan and the Holly Springs Planning Board were especially active in providing feedback and direction during the process to update the plan. Both voted unanimously to recommend approval of the final plan.
Sarah Larson, Holly Springs resident and member of the advisory committee, shared during public comment, “Holly Springs has a very unique character, a rich history, and a bright future. The downtown area plan highlights the areas where the community would like to feel like a community, where we are drawn to the heart of Holly Springs.”
Also included in the plan were steps to guide the implementation of the recommended ideas and strategies. These included action items such as creating a parking strategy for Downtown, updating the plan for Mims Park, rolling out a new Downtown brand, and more.

Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, today announced an expansion of its investment in a new Holly Springs manufacturing facility. The increased investment will more than double the initial total commitment for the company’s first-ever East Coast manufacturing facility to approximately $2 billion.
This investment is on top of the initial commitment in May 2025, and groundbreaking in August 2025, reflecting Genentech’s continued confidence in the region’s community, workforce, and long-term growth potential.
“Genentech’s increased investment in Holly Springs creates durable jobs and strengthens our life sciences sector,” said North Carolina Governor Josh Stein. “This expansion reinforces North Carolina’s role in supporting innovation, workforce development, and long-term economic opportunity.”
The investment is expected to add an additional 100 new jobs to the North Carolina economy, with the project supporting more than 500 high-wage manufacturing jobs and 1,500 construction jobs.
“We are excited to further expand our investment in our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina,” said Genentech CEO, Ashley Magargee. “This expansion reflects our long-term commitment to the United States and communities like Holly Springs that offer the kind of world-class biotech talent, top research institutions, and strong infrastructure that make innovation possible. This additional investment will create more high-quality jobs, strengthen local partnerships, and ensure a resilient supply of medicines for years to come, allowing us to bring life-changing medicines to patients faster and more reliably.”
Set to be operational by 2029, the expanded investment allows Genentech to build out additional production capacity and significantly increase the facility’s output.
Holly Springs continues to lead the way in the State as a preferred location for the life sciences industry, thanks to long-term strategic planning to position the Town as an ideal home for these companies. CSL Seqirus, FUJIFILM Biotechnologies, Amgen, and others have already made significant investments in the community.
“Genentech’s continued investment is one of the most significant initiatives we have advanced since I took office, and it speaks to Holly Springs’ strength as a place where leading companies choose to grow,” said Holly Springs Mayor Mike Kondratick. “This expansion underscores Genentech’s long-term commitment here and the importance of close collaboration with our Town, from local services and infrastructure planning to partnering on workforce and education initiatives. I look forward to continuing our partnership with Genentech to strengthen our thriving community’s future.”
The company decided to increase its investment in Holly Springs, a growing hub for biopharmaceutical innovation, because of its highly skilled local workforce, strong academic institutions, and proximity to other leading life science companies in the Research Triangle Region.
“We’ve seen explosive economic development in Holly Springs in just the past five years,” said Vice Chair Safiyah Jackson, Wake County Board of Commissioners. “Three Fortune 500 companies have announced plans to invest $6.7 billion and create more than 2,600 new jobs all within two square miles. It’s truly incredible. When big industry chooses Wake County, we see talent that enriches small business and our whole community.”
“North Carolina is the best State for business and a global life sciences trailblazer,” said North Carolina Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. “Genentech’s expansion underscores the strength of the partnerships, both statewide and locally, and our nationally recognized workforce and research institutions that propel our thriving biotechnology hub forward.”
Numerous partners collaborated to make this project a reality. Partners on this project include:
