Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

If you have the passion and the time, there is a way you can serve.

Do you have the desire to serve your community in times of need? The Town is considering launching a Community Emergency Response Team of volunteers who would be ready to help in a variety of situations, from assisting in the aftermath of a major disaster to supplementing staffing at special events, such as festivals and parades.

Also known as CERT, the program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

What types of services could CERT volunteers provide?

From students to skilled tradesmen, training is available to prepare you to make a difference in a time of need. CERT members could find themselves:

  • Building or distributing home emergency kits
  • Helping educate the community on safety
  • Providing real-time updates across Town during an emergency
  • Helping direct people or traffic to shelters or resource centers, and helping staff those shelters or centers
  • Assisting in property and damage assessments
  • Checking on elderly residents
  • Distribute supplies, food, and water
  • Assisting in recovery efforts after a storm
  • Helping clear community lifelines like roadways, water lines, etc.
