It is illegal to dump paint, chemicals, trash, and other materials into storm drains, gutters, lakes, and other waterways, and it is also illegal to allow liquids other than rainwater from drains and pipes to flow into the storm drain system.
Report a spill, illegal dumping, or illegal connections to the storm drain system by calling the Holly Springs Stormwater Hotline at (919) 567-4011 or emailing stormwater@hollyspringsnc.us.
Drains flow directly into creeks, streams, rivers, ponds, and lakes in Holly Springs. Examples of illegal discharges and connections are:
- Paint being poured into or near a storm drain or structure
- Changing oil or antifreeze over or near a storm structure
- Discarding yard waste in or near a storm structure
- A pipe from a washing machine emptying into a storm drain structure
- A sewer service pipe emptying into a storm structure
The Town may issue warnings or fines depending on the severity of the violation.
