The Town’s Stormwater Management Program safeguards local waterways and works to ensure that rainwater that flows from all properties into the collection systems remains clean and free of contamination. The program aims to reduce flooding to protect infrastructure, such as roadways, water and sewer lines, and properties.
The program ensures that the Town complies with federal requirements involving inspections and maintenance of stormwater retention areas, responding to stormwater complaints, enforcing penalties against illicit discharges, providing outreach to residents and businesses to help prevent pollution, and more.
The program also helps facilitate regional stormwater treatment areas, like the downtown retention pond, to both prevent flooding and reduce water pollution. The program's work improves parts of the Town dealing with aging infrastructure. Much of the community has drainage systems that are nearly 30 years old. Necessary repairs decrease the likelihood of flooding and damage to property and roads. This is especially important since Holly Springs has been receiving more rainfall and more severe storms over the past few years.
It’s a lot of work, and it costs money. Through the stormwater management program fee, all Holly Springs residential and non-residential property owners and occupants pay a portion of the costs of the Town’s federally required stormwater management program.
