CALEA

The Holly Springs Police Department is committed to being a leader in professional excellence. By seeking initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), we are voluntarily holding ourselves to the highest standards in the world of modern policing.

Earning CALEA accreditation is a multi-year, multi-step journey that requires every member of our department to participate. The process includes:

  1. Self-Assessment: We conduct a thorough internal review of every policy, procedure, and practice within the department to ensure they align with CALEA’s high standards.
  2. Evidence Gathering: We collect "proofs of compliance"—real-world examples showing that our officers are following these professional standards in their daily work.
  3. External Assessment: A team of independent, out-of-state assessors will conduct a formal site visit to inspect our operations and interview staff.
  4. Public Feedback: Community input is a vital part of this process. We provide access to the CALEA Public Portal so that residents can share comments, commendations, or relevant information regarding our quality of service directly with the commission.
  5. Final Commission Review: After the assessment, the CALEA Commission reviews all findings and decides whether to grant our initial accreditation.

The standards upon which the Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is based reflect the current thinking and experience of law enforcement practitioners and researchers. Major law enforcement associations, leading educational and training institutions, governmental agencies, and law enforcement executives worldwide acknowledge CALEA’s Standards for Law Enforcement Agencies and its Accreditation Programs as benchmarks for professional law enforcement agencies. The CALEA Public Portal provides the public with an opportunity to submit comments, commendations, and other information regarding the quality of service of the Holly Springs Police Department and other information relevant to the accreditation process. The portal is independently maintained by CALEA to gather information regarding the accreditation or reaccreditation process.
